What is the Difference Between Mineral Body Wraps, Seaweed Clay Body Wraps and Aloe Body Wraps?

The practice of wrapping the body for health and beauty has greatly evolved since ancient times with technology and experimentation. There are many different techniques and literally hundreds of different products, all claiming certain benefits that can be achieved through body wraps. Doctors are not entirely convinced that the claims associated with body wraps are accurate or even safe. Others swear by the body wrap's abilities and will be steadfast users of the products. The following is a list of some of the more popular body wraps and their claimed benefits.

These are considered to be more of a pampering spa treatment and are intended to nourish the skin, relax the mind, body and spirit through the use of essential oils applied to the body in a massage-type application.

Aloe

A high quality Aloe wrap can be detoxifying and help to soften and smooth the skin. If applied in a compression wrap, moderate inch loss can be expected. These are also very beneficial if you have sunburned or extremely dry skin.

Collagen

Collagen is a protein produced by our bodies to repair cells and tissues and to aid in the development of new ones. Unfortunately, collagen molecules are too large to be absorbed through the pores of our skin via a body wrap or other beauty products. Any temporary anti-aging effects claimed by a collagen body wrap are the result of other skin-firming ingredients in the wrap solution.

Herbal

Warm linens or bandages are soaked in a mixture of oils and herbs known for their nourishing properties and wrapped around the body. The combination of heat and aroma is pleasantly intoxicating - the body is deeply relaxed, the mind thoroughly tranquil. The use of heat stimulates detoxification of the skin, resulting in exceptionally soft, supple skin. When used as a compression wrap, temporary inch loss and body sculpting may also be a benefit.

Mineral

Similar to herbal wraps, but the ingredients are mostly minerals which are said to penetrate into the deepest layers of the skin for better detoxification. Additional ingredients are included to soften and firm the skin and claim to have anti-aging benefits. Temporary inch loss can be expected with compression wraps.

Mud and Clay

The mud wrap involves slathering the body with the thick substance (it is typically painted on with a large, gentle brush). The body is then wrapped in plastic and covered with warm linens. The mud is removed after a brief rest period and followed by a shower. This treatment hydrates, tones and detoxifies the skin.

Parafango

Parafango, a combination of paraffin (wax) and fango (mud), is typically used to decrease the appearance of cellulite. The Parafango draws out toxins while the heated wrap compresses fatty tissue. The result is firmer, tighter skin. This wrap is also used to treat muscle soreness. The substance encourages deep stimulation and increases circulation.

Now you can make you own choice and indulge yourself the next time you book your body wrap treatment.
